2019 World Scout Jamboree News!

Great News!

wsj2019 logoThe following young people have been selected to represent SW Notts District as members of the Nottinghamshire Scouts Unit to attend the World Scout Jamboree which will take place in West Virginia in the USA in 2019:

Aden Glover-Newson (Pioneer Explorer Scout Unit, Inham Nook, Chilwell and Young Leader at 1st Chilwell and Attenborough Scout Group), Leah Charles (1st Stapleford Scout Group), Ruby Porter (6th Beeston Scout Group), David Fyfe (Pioneer Explorer Scout Unit, Inham Nook, Chilwell), Ewan Hoole (2nd Chilwell (Christ Church) Scout Group) and Finlay Hunt (2nd Toton Scout Group).

These young people were chosen following a challenging selection weekend camp at Drum Hill Scout Camp in November 2017, Each of them now face the challenge of raising £3595 – being the cost of attending the Jamborroe, with the support of their own Scout Group/Explorer Scout Unit and SW Notts District Scout Council. We congratulate them on being selected and offer the our full support as they prepare to attend this amazing life-changing international event.

We are seeking the support of the local community in helping them raise these funds over the next 18 months. If local organisations feel they would like to support them we would welcome their offers of help. It is a dauntng task but they will welcome your help. This can come through local charitable trusts offering donations towards the cost or from businesses offering opportunties for them to raise funds through, for example, bag-packing at supermarkets, or offering opportunities for them to raise funds at loacl community events such as local carnivals.

In addition they will be holding fund-raising events themselves, and they will welcome your support.

These young people have proved they deserve our support. by demonstrating their determination to represent their local community at an event which will see 50,000 scouts from all corners of this planet come together in the USA in 2019 to work for cooperation and understanding amongst young people who are united by their Scout Law and Promise.

If you can help in any way, please contact Simon Clark, District Commissioner, at swnottsdc@gmail.com. We would value your support for these amazing young people.

Thank you
