Following discussions between the 1st Stapleford (St Helen’s) Scout Group and the 1st Trowell (St Helen’s) Scout Group, they have decided to amalgamate.
The amalgamated Group will be known as the 1st Stapleford and Trowell Scout Group and it will meet at the former 1st Stapleford’s HQ which is on Pinfold Lane – to the rear of the fire station.
This change cements the existing close relationship between the two Groups. Cubs from Trowell have met with the 1st Stapleford for many years and more recently the Beaver section did likewise. Now the Scout section has chosen to follow suit.
The links with Trowell will not be lost. The Scout section leaders from Trowell have transferred over to the new Group structure and there are plans to continue to attract new members from both Trowell and Stapleford.
Charlotte Gosling will, by mutual agreement, be the Group Scout Leader of the new Group.
This change has been unanimously approved by both Group Executive Committees, each Group’s leadership team and by the District Executive Committee.
As District Commissioner, I want to thank Charlotte Gosling and Jeremy Prentice and their respective teams for the time and effort they have devoted to making this exciting development possible.
This is a classic example of the benefits that can be gained from Groups working together to ensure we offer the best Scouting experience to our youth membership. Both Groups are to be commended for their positive and dynamic approach towards this restructuring. I ask you to join me in wishing the new Group every success for the future.
In the last couple of weeks, a new Beaver Colony was opened at 1st Chilwell and Attenborough Scout Group. They’ve had two meetings so far and they have already begun learning key scouting skills such as lighting fires and eating marshmallows. We can’t wait to see what other fantastic activities the leaders have got lined up for the future.
Beavers is the scouting section for 6-8 year olds. The aim is to teach the young people the basics of scouting through fun and games so that they are active and learning at the same time. There’s the opportunity to earn a wide variety of badges and undertake a huge assortment of events on offer from the Group and District.
Showing that summer camp isn’t just for Scouts, one hundred Beavers and Cubs from 1st and 2nd Toton Scout Groups embarked on a big two-night summer camp at Willesley Scout Campsite in June 2019! All the young people spent the night under canvas and went on an action-packed day trip to Conkers Discovery Centre. The young people enjoyed a variety of adventurous activities including, scaling the MEGA assault course; exploring the National Forest through the tree-top walks; escaping the range of warrens, mazes and soft play zones; riding the train; building dens in the woods; investigating the interactive exhibits and much more! The action-packed day was topped off with a campfire singalong, hot chocolate and marshmallows. It was safe to say that all had an amazing time and that there were many new friendships and #SkillForLife developed over the weekend. We cannot wait for the next big adventure!!
During August, 1st Chilwell and Attenborough Scouts visited Wales for their Annual Summer Camp. True to form the Welsh weather didn’t hold off, but that didn’t stop the Scouts from having an absolutely fantastic time. From Rock Climbing to Axe Throwing, the week was jam packed with activities.
